APRIL-ORAL CANCER AWARENESS
APRIL IS ORAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!
Oral cancer continues to be a disease that is increasing in incidence throughout the United States and the world. Studies tell us that over 40,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year alone. Although your risk for some oral cancers increases with age no one is immune to its devastating effects. Not even denture wearers. The key to successful, minimally invasive and possibly lifesaving treatment is early detection. Patients with early detection and treatment of localized lesions have 5 year survival rates between 80 and 90 percent. Late detection drops 5 year survival rates to as low as 25 to 30 percent. Many times the dentist can even diagnose and treat precancerous lesions before they become problematic.
We support April as oral cancer awareness month and encourage you to make an appointment with your dentist to be screened. If we may be of assistance, please call us at 688-4501 to schedule an appointment for a free oral cancer screening-a short, painless examination performed by Dr. Crofut.
We would like to thank Oral Cancer Cause, the non-profit organization for their tireless efforts to help patients and their families who are going through oral cancer treatments. We share their vision of compassion for the many lives that have been lost to oral cancer and a passion for the many lives that can be saved. Thanks also to our friends at Colgate for their generous donation for our patient gift bags during the month of April!
